For Republic Day, Yogi Adityanath Orders Publicity of 3,000 Encounters, 78 Killings As His Govt’s ‘Achievements’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has reportedly sent a communique to district administrations across the state asking them to publicise the killings and encounters that took place during his tenure on Republic Day.

According to an Indian Express report, in the communique, the Adityanath government asked the District Magistrates to publicise over 3,200 encounters and 79 killings as an achievement in the first 16 months of the BJP government assuming power in the state. Along with the communique, Chief Secretary Anup Chandra Pandey also send a letter highlighting the statewide data of encounters, arrests and killings.

According to the letter, there were 3,026 encounters till July 2018 in which 79 criminals were gunned down, 7,043 criminals were arrested, and 838 criminals sustained injuries in Uttar Pradesh, IE reported.

Further, the letter reportedly added that 11,981 criminals had their bail cancelled and surrendered in courts between July 2017 and July 2018 and the Special Task Force (STF) gunned down nine other criminals in encounters, besides arresting 139 others in the northern state.

Shockingly, a rough analysis of the data underlines that an average of six encounters took place every day, 14 criminals were arrested, and at least four criminals were killed in encounters every month. A similar letter was sent by Yogi Adityanath government to all districts magistrates ahead of the Republic Day in 2018 as well.
