While BJP Minister Says There Is No Water Logging, Girl Falls Into Nullah, Dies In Maharashtra’s Yavatmal

A four-year-old girl today died after she fell into a nullah during heavy rains in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district, a senior official said.

District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh said that Akansha Anil Gaikwad was playing on the road near a nullah, in Chikli Kanoba village of Ner tehsil, when she fell into it.

The incident happened at around 1:30 pm and the villagers, who found the girl in the nullah some distance ahead, rushed her to the local hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival, he said.

This is the fifth monsoon-related death in the district since the rains began this year, an official said.

Earlier, two persons in Pusad and one each in Wani and Kelapur tehsils were washed away by floods.

The district has recorded 357.14 mm of water since June 1, officials said today.

They said that Nilona Dam, the man source of drinking water for the city, was overflowing while another, Chapdoh Dam, was about 40 per cent full.
