Nation with NaMo, the website seeking volunteers for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s re-election campaign in the 2019 general assembly elections, reportedly, has significant loopholes, which could potentially exploit registered users’ private and sensitive data.

Sharing a few pictures, political activist and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee tweeted how the website would function, even with the threat to its users. “See the privacy policy of Nation with Namo — A massive propaganda Facebook page made for 2019 elections. They will collect, keep and sell all of your sensitive private information to all kinds of consultants, vendors etc. And you better accept all risks of unauthorised access,” said Rathee.

In the sub-section, “User Data” in its listed terms and conditions, the website not only asks potential user to share their correct and current personal information, but also states the user would need to, “Accept all risks of unauthorised access to the Input Data and any other information you provide to NwN.”

Likewise, in its “Privacy Policy”, the website details how a user — by agreeing to join NwN — would be consenting to receiving messages and calls, even other than the ones related to NwN’s events. The privacy policy also mentions that such data will be collected and used by the website.

“By giving us your personal information, you agree to receiving regular communication from us in various forms including e-mails, SMS, calls, automated calls among others, in relation to NwN, its events and other associated information. We will gather and utilise individual data singularly with the target of satisfying those reasons indicated by us and for other good purposes, unless we get your consent or as required by law,” mentions the policy.

Additionally, emphasising on these aspects, the site’s privacy policy, concludes, “For making the use of website effective and resourceful NwN may share your information with vendors, consultants, and other service providers or volunteers who are engaged by or working with us and who need access to such information to carry out their work for us; with people, organisations, groups or causes that we believe have similar political viewpoints, principles or objectives…”
