Out On Bail, Doctor Being Investigated In Vyapam Scam Dies In ‘Suspicious Circumstances’

Being probed by CBI in connection to the Vyapam Scam, Dr Manisha Sharma, died on Monday in Lucknow after allegedly injecting herself with an overdose of anaesthesia drugs.

Dr Sharma allegedly injected herself with the drugs on Sunday, after which she was admitted to trauma centre of KGMU hospital in critical condition. Reportedly, as per a court order, she was scheduled to visit CBI’s Vyapam scam office the same day.

Dr Sharma was currently out on bail after being arrested in 2015 by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Gwalior police. She was accused of impersonating as exam candidates twice in the pre-medical test.

Her family members have lodged a first information report (FIR) against a senior doctor, Udham Singh, in King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, on grounds of harassment. Dr Sharma was a junior doctor here.

Lucknow West Superintendent of Police Vikas Chandra Tripathi told ANI, “On October 13, a woman informed us that her sister, who is a doctor at King George’s Medical University, injected herself with some drug and was being treated at King George’s Medical University where she died on Monday. An FIR has been registered against a doctor. Action will be taken based on the investigation.”
