VJTI Student Accused Professor Of Sexual Harassment, Panel Set Up To Investigate Allegations

Mumbai: The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to set up an independent inquiry panel to investigate a 20-year-old student’s accusations of harassment against her professor at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), The Indian Express reported.

The student alleged that the professor, who is also head of a department here, kissed her against her will and touched her inappropriately on May 18.

The father of the student revealed that they met the director of the institute and narrated the entire incident.

On May 28, a case was registered with Matunga police station following an internal complaints committee report. The student also told the police that she had pushed the professor and ran out of his cabin.

The accused professor was arrested and released on bail later.

DTE director Abhay Wagh said, “As soon as the matter came to our notice, we issued a letter to the institute and set up a committee to look into the allegations. The professor was suspended on May 31 after the internal complaints committee submitted its report.”

He also said that further course of action will be decided on the basis of the findings of the committee.
