Uttar Pradesh: Man dragged Out of Police Van and Beaten to Death in Front of Cops

A youth was beaten to death at Hathchhoya village in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh on November 26, Monday. A video of the incident that has gone viral on social media shows the victim being dragged out of a police vehicle and beaten to death by a mob.

The incident, according to news reports, took place in Shamli, a district headquarter that falls in the National Capital Region. Rajendra Kashyap, the victim, who reportedly had a drunken spat with a few villagers in the area, was slapped by men inside a Dial-100 police van, then dragged out and beaten to death. The police officer inside the van, as can be seen in the video is but a mute spectator the events.  

According to Hindustan Times, one arrest has been made so far and the police are on the lookout for five others who attacked the victim. The report states the Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar, admitting negligence, has ordered the suspension of the officers present and has initiated a departmental enquiry. “Stern action would be taken against those found responsible for the incident,” said Kumar.
