A worker died in a ply wood factory on Friday, January 18 in Paikramau, near Gudamba Police Station in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The factory was running without a license. A video that surfaced on social media reportedly shows the deceased worker Tinku Yadav’s (19) mother, Lajjawati, weeping relentlessly in front of a local police official, requesting that an FIR be filed.

In the video, the police official seen lounging on the chair is reportedly inspector Tej Prakash Singh. His sub-ordinates ask Lajjawati: “Kyu mataji pareshna ho” (Why are you worried?). Lajjawati, who stands with folded hands, then falls on Singh’s feet and continues to cry and plead.

The video was shared by an account called Zoo Bear on Twitter:

According to a Navbharat Times report,  workers of the factory complained that the owner was making them work on a machine which was defunct since the past two months. This machine caused Yadav’s death, they alleged.

The angry villagers protested on Kursi road for almost one hour on Friday. A case has been registered  in Gudamba Police Station. The owner of the factory Ajay Gupta (Lallbabu) has fled. The victim’s brother alleged that Gupta has threatned them and even offered them Rs 1 lakh through the Gram Pradhan to close the matter.
