A Dalit youth was reportedly beaten up and set ablaze by a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on Friday, July 19.
NDTV reported that 28-year-old Sujit Kumar was going to visit his in-laws’ when the incident took place. He had entered a house to avoid stray dogs who were chasing him, and residents of the house ‘mistook’ him for a thief and proceeded to thrash him.

Then, the mob poured petrol on him and set him on fire.

The report added that Sujit sustained burn injuries on his back and was rushed to Civil Hospital, Lucknow.
An FIR has been registered against under relevant sections of the IPC as well as the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Two people have been arrested so far.
