Rani Devi, a Dalit woman was severely beaten up for eating a mango from an orchard in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Sunday.
Devi had gone to the orchard to graze her cattle when she found a mango on the ground. The owner of the orchard walked in on her while she eating the fruit and started thrashing her, reported NDTV.
After coming back to her residence, Devi collapsed. Then she was taken to a nearby hospital where they referred her to another hospital in Kanpur. She died on her way to Kanpur.
The accused, who is the owner of the orchard, is absconding.
