Uttar Pradesh: BJP MLA Says Mayawati Worse Than An Eunuch; Opposition Parties Condemn The Remark, No Word From BJP Yet

Mayawati

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Uttar Pradesh MLA on Saturday, January 19 made an offensive comment against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati. The opposition parties slammed the lawmaker for her derogatory comment. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken notice of the statement and will reportedly issue a formal notice, seeking an explanation from her.

“Jis din mahila ka blouse, petticoat, saari phat jaaye, wo mahila na satta ke liye aage aati hai. Usko pure desh ki mahila kalankit maanti hai. Wo to kinnar se bhi jyada badtar hai, kyunki wo to na nar hai, na mahila hai (The day a woman’s blouse, petticoat and saree are torn, she comes forward to participate in politics. She is a disgrace to the nation’s women. She is worse than a eunuch because she is neither a man nor a woman),” the Mughalsarai MLA said at a rally.

Singh made the comments in reference to the infamous incident when Mayawati was reportedly assaulted by Samajwadi Party workers at a guest house in Lucknow in 1995. The episode had triggered decades of animosity between the two parties which recently ended as they announced that they will fight the Lok Sabha polls together in the state.

It is noteworthy that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly taunted Mayawati for forming an alliance with the SP and forgetting the guest house episode. However, the BSP chief slammed the prime minister by saying that she had decided to put the past behind her “for the sake of the nation”.

An NCW official informed PTI that an official notice would be sent to Singh on Monday, January 21.

The leaders of several political parties criticised the BJP MLA for making the offensive remark.
