Retired IPS Officer Gaurav Dutt has allegedly committed suicide and blamed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of pursuing a vendetta against him in his suicide note. As per reports, Dutta’s body was found in his Salt Lake residence on Tuesday, February 19. He was shifted to a private hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding.

The 1986 batch IPS had served as a Superintendent of Police in at least three districts, including Midnapore and Murshidabad when the Left Front was in power in West Bengal. However, after Banerjee assumed charge as the chief minister he was put in a compulsory waiting list for an extended period just before his retirement, local daily Ganashakti reported. He was an IG rank officer in the West Bengal Police department.

In his letter, Dutt has alleged that Banerjee was deliberately not closing two pending cases against him to deprive him of retirement benefits. He asserted that the Trinamool Congress government had blocked his “financial dues” — Rs 30 lakh gratuity amount, Rs 25 lakh commuted dues and Rs 17 lakh in leaves salary — adding that after his death the government would be bound to release the amount and his “family can survive with dignity”.

“Madam Chief Minister, maybe this action of mine will bring a change of heart in your black heart and may act as an eye-opener for all new IPS officers who should act only within the ambit of law and not please ruling govt. Because the ruling government will ‘Use and Throw’ all officers sooner or later. This is the ultimate dharma of ruling govt (sic),” Dutt wrote in the letter addressed to Banerjee.

“Result of CM’s action”

In his detailed suicide note, Dutt attacked Banerjee by underlining that she held a vindictive attitude towards him for ten years. He wrote a separate column on the “Result of CM’s action”.

“Like rats in a sinking ship, all service friends, social acquaintances, well wishes all abandoned me saying I would have “managed” (Setting the CM) by hook or crook (sic),” he noted.

He underlined that the situation in the state under the current regime in Kafka-esque. “All are prisoners here as no one is allowed to go on deputation also. It’s a Kafka situation in Bengal (sic),” Dutt wrote. “This toxic evil hellish environment created by CM WB (Mamata Banerjee) — seems to never end (sic),” he added.

Dutt highlighted that Banerjee prefers to be surrounded by officers who are sycophants and punishes others who refuse to be Yes Men. “This pettiness, vindictiveness and revengeful attitude for no apparent reasons are not qualities a leader should have to be on the national stage,” he wrote.
