Congress-JD(S) Govt in Karnataka Stable and Strong; BJP Trying to Destabilise It: Mallikarjun Kharge

The Congress-JD(S) government in Karnataka is stable and strong and will continue to be so, he said.

The saffron party, he alleged, was trying to destabilise the government through another ‘Operation Lotus,’ “a tactic which will not work this time”.

The former PM also jibed that the BJP should try to make nation ‘problem-free’ and stop the ‘unwanted travel-spree’.

Under the power sharing arrangement reached by the two parties, Congress will have 22 ministers and the JD(S) 12.

Results for 2,662 seats out of 2,709 have been declared so far.

The power-sharing arrangement between the two alliance partners is being finalized and is in the final stages, the sources added.

The Karnataka post fractured mandate could be a rehearsal of the 2019 elections in the event of a minority government being sworn in, he said.

Congress’ Ramesh Kumar was elected the Speaker unopposed.

He also said he is conscious that he is not running a majority government.

With the numbers game tilted in favour of the coalition, 58-year old Kumaraswamy looks to be sitting pretty to win the trial of strength.
