The Congress party announced on Thursday, February 21 that it is setting up a Task Force on National Security which will be headed by Retired Lt. Gen. Deependra Singh Hooda.
The Task Force will prepare a vision paper for the country in consultation with experts.
A press release signed by All India Congress Committee general secretary KC Venugopal said, “The Congress President is setting up a Task Force on National Security to prepare a vision paper for the country. Lt Gen DS Hooda (retd) will lead the Task Force and prepare the paper in consultation with a select group of experts.”
Hooda, the former General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian army’s Northern Command, was the Northern Army Commander during the ‘surgical strike’ conducted in the wake of the Uri terrorist attack in 2016.
The announcement, coming ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls, is key considering the Narendra Modi government has come under severe criticism for it’s national security policies following the Pulwama terror attack that killed 44 CRPF jawans.
