Mumbai: In the wake of the Haryana gangrape incident, NCP MP Supriya Sule Friday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi if laws that are meant to prevent atrocities against women were really being implemented.
She said the PM should break his silence over the issue.
A 19-year-old student was allegedly raped by three men in Haryana’s Mahendergarh district after being abducted Wednesday afternoon.
“As a woman, I demand justice from the prime minister who speaks about ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’,” Sule said in a statement.
“There is nothing to show what is said is being implemented. There are laws to prevent atrocities against women, but are these laws being implemented? Modi should break his silence and respond,” the Lok Sabha MP from Baramati said.
Citing a state government data, Sule said the number of missing girls in Maharashtra is around 3,000.
“While a ruling party legislator openly talks about kidnapping women and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the state Home Minister, keeps mum,” Sule said referring to BJP MLA Ram Kadam’s “will kidnap the girl” remarks.
