In a bizarre turn of events, renowned poet Faiz’s daughter Muneeza Hashmi was not allowed to participate in a media summit in Delhi after being officially invited. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was an organiser for the event.
According to TV 18, I&B Ministry has denied having any knowledge of the incident. Hashmi, a Pakistani media personality was invited as a speaker at the 15th Asia Media Summit held in Delhi between May 10-12.
Sources told The Citizen that the government asked the organisers that she should not check into the hotel or register for the conference. Understandably, she was not allowed to speak at the event too.
Hashmi was re-booked by the organisers at another hotel and she left for Pakistan the next morning. The organisers apologised to her for the turn of events.
According to Citizen, Hashmi had a long-term visa for India. Hence, the government got her off the list of speakers at the event, and out of India, once her presence here was known and confirmed.
On Saturday, Hashmi’s son Ali Hashmi took to Twitter to slam the government for its move. He asserted that the event “in “no way diminishes our love and respect for the people of India”.

Genuinely sad that the Govt of India should see Faiz’s daughter Moneeza Hashmi’s participation in a cultural-media event as a national security liability. https://t.co/cKlLFYF9fG @Ali_Madeeh
