Jay Narayan Vyas, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Gujarat, took to Twitter on Tuesday, December 11 and jibed at the much-talked about educational qualifications of the newly-appointed Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor, Shaktikanta Das.

Referring to Das’ M.A. in History, Vyas wrote, “Hope and Pray he doesn’t make RBI also a History. May God Bless the New Arrival !!”

According to NDTV, Vyas was pressured by his party to delete the said tweet but he refused to do so. Vyas also told NDTV that he expected that someone holding such an important office in the country would be an economist or would at least have an understanding of economics.

Vyas has reportedly clarified that he is still with the BJP.

Shaktikanta Das, The 63-year-old, a 1980-batch Tamil Nadu cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer was the economics affairs secretary when the Narendra Modi-led government had announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes in November 2016.

His controversial appointment was made a day after Urjit Patel resigned from the post amid an ongoing tussle between the central bank and the Modi government.
