The Supreme Court (SC) Collegium’s January 10 decision to stop the elevation of Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, and Justice Sanjeev Khanna, a judge of Delhi High Court to the apex court has, reportedly, caused discontent among few of the SC judges.

Per a report in the Indian Express, the overturning of the Collegium’s decision unnerved a sections of judges because of “the sudden move to just shelve the decisions arrived at in December, without either making that decision public, or stating why it needed to be reversed.”

The IE report also said that while “certain decisions” about the potential elevation of Justice Nandrajog and Justice Menon had been taken by Collegium, these decisions were neither communicated to the law ministry nor made public on the SC website.

Justice Maheshwari and Justice Khanna were elevated to the SC after the Collegium overturned its December 12 decision to recommend Justice Pradeep Nandrajog, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, and Justice Rajendra Menon, Chief Justice of Delhi High Court to the SC.
