Out of all the conversations about the interim budget that took place on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi’s tweet reportedly stood out as the most retweeted tweet.
As per a statement issued by Twitter, between January 31 and February 4, around 1.4 million tweets were posted pertaining to the interim budget, reported IANS.
Out of these, Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, on the Modi government’s announcement of providing Rs 6,000 per year to small farmers, was the most retweeted one. Noting that the amount translated into Rs 17 per day, Gandhi had called the move an “insult” to everything farmers “stand and worked for”. The tweet has been retweeted over 45,000 times.

According to a report by Aaj Tak, a tweet from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Twitter handle, quoting Rahul Gandhi’s above mentioned tweet, stood second. On third position was a tweet by a journalist. Tweets posted by Narendra Modi’s handle and Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) official Twitter handle came fourth and fifth respectively.

Out of the 1.4 million tweets on the interim budget, eight lakh tweets were posted from India. On the day of the budget, tweets were posted at a rate of 72,000 per hour, reported Aaj Tak. Among the many hashtags that trended on Twitter on budget day, #Budget2019, #BudgetForNewIndia were the most popular ones, the report added.
