Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Visit Families of Pulwama Martyrs

Congress President Rahul Gandhi and party’s in-charge for eastern Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday, February 20 paid a visit to the families of two CRPF jawans killed in the Pulwama terror attack.

They reportedly met the families of slain jawans Amit Kumar and Pradeep Kumar in Shamli district. Dainik Jagran reported that Priyanka Gandhi spoke to Amit Kumar’s family and said that she understands their grief as she had lost her own father in a similar incident. She was referring to the assassination of her father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.

“We have experienced grief and know how are feeling. Not just us but the entire nation is with you. Don’t feel you are alone. We are with you and we will take care of you,” she said, reported IANS. Priyanka Gandhi also spent time with Amit Kumar’s wife and other women who had gathered to mourn his death.

“I have lost my father and I can understand how you must be feeling. While it is a sad day, your son’s sacrifice is equally a matter of pride not just for you and us but for the entire nation, Rahul Gandhi reportedly said.

“This is one country. This is a country for everyone and this is a country of love and brotherhood. This is the message of India,” he added.

NDTV reported  that the Gandhis then visited martyr Pradeep Kumar’s home and paid their respects.

The Gandhis were accompanied by Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh west Jyotiraditya Scindia and state Congress chief Raj Babbar.

Out of the 40 CRPF jawans killed on February 14 in the Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, 12 were from U.P.
