Narendra Modi is Not Going to Be the PM, Guaranteed: Rahul Gandhi

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday, May 2 said while campaigning in Jaipur, Rajasthan that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not winning the Lok Sabha Polls election.

In an interview with NDTV, Gandhi said, “What’s pretty clear is that we’re winning the election…if you look at all the numbers coming from the first four phases (of the elections), the BJP is not winning…”

Speaking to Sreenivasan Jain, Gandhi said, “Narendra Modi is not going to be Prime Minister (after the polls), guaranteed.”

Explaining the assessment, he added that there is an upsurge in India against the type of government that has been run in India in the last five years.

“There is massive unemployment, there is the double combination of GST and notebandi (demonetisation) which has essentially crippled the Indian economy. You have massive farmers’ disenchantment, mass farmers’ suicides taking place and the economic miracle that India was, it has stumbled.”

Speaking about the party’s decision to appoint Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress president also rubbished speculation regarding the party dividing anti-BJP votes. He reiterated that in U.P., it is clear that secular parties will be elected, be it Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party or the Congress. “Gathbandhan and the Congress party will clean U.P. up,” he added.

Voting for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election will be held on May 6.
