Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for months now, has attacked the Opposition alliance — the Mahagathbandhan — calling it weak. He’s referred to it as Mahamilavat (grand adulteration) and has even gone ahead to warn voters during his rallies to be wary of them.
A big part of Modi’s campaign, aside from cloudy nationalism, has been the idea of a stable government; something he claims cannot happen if the government is an alliance of several parties. Unlike the Bharatiya Janata Party, of course.
Today, on May 12 — the day of the penultimate phase of polling — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, sings a different tune.
The BJP Gujarat’s Twitter account shared PM Modi’s newest insight on alliances. He said, “BJP knows the art of running coalitions. I myself have worked with BJP allies in different states when I was working for the organisation. Then our party has the legacy of Shri Vajpayee ji who ran the best coalition during his tenure.”

This change of heart is a significant one when you consider it comes from the same person who had once said, “Do you want a government whose remote control is in the hands of a dozen people?”
With May 23 less than a fortnight away, perhaps PM Modi’s opinions on many other matters will become less cloudy. After all, he wants the nation’s radars to detect him, doesn’t he?
