Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday, January 10 slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh for his remarks on Shah Faesal who recently resigned from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) citing “unabated killings in Kashmir”.

Singh had commented on Faesal’s resignation, saying “If you have the conviction then you should be ready to condemn the act of terrorism. You can’t enjoy protection of security forces against a potential attack &at the same time not be courageous enough to point out at a terrorist as a terrorist but find a soft target in an Indian state which is tolerant gives leverage to your expression,” reported ANI.

The National Congress leader schooled Singh that “No one more than Faesal knows the pain & suffering militancy & violence have brought upon Kashmir & it’s people,” as Faesal’s father had been killed by militants. Abdullah also jibed at the minister’s uninformed remark saying, “I don’t expect you to bother to educate yourself before you speak.”

Shah Faesal, who has been in the limelight since becoming the first Kashmiri to top the exam in 2009, had resigned on Wednesday, protesting the “unabated” killings in Kashmir and the marginalisation of Indian Muslims.

In a brief statement on Facebook, the 35-year-old had said that his resignation was also to protest “the marginalisation and invisiblisation of around 200 million Indian Muslims at the hands of Hindutva forces reducing them to second-class citizens; insidious attacks on the special identity of the state and growing culture of intolerance and hate in mainland India in the name of hyper-nationalism”.
