The Yogi Adityanath government has not released fund allocated for Lucknow’s Gomti riverfront maintenance project which is leading to the degradation of the river.

A Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) official told GoNews that even after demands were raised by them, the Uttar Pradesh government has not released fund for irrigation and maintenance. If funds are not released the area may deteriorate further, the official added. Gomti riverfront is one of the important tourist spots in the state capital.

The LDA has approved the horticulture funds for the riverfront. However, irrigation department is yet to receive funds for cleaning and maintenance. Till now, Rs 1, 513 crore has been spent on the project, which remains incomplete.

A Navbharat Times report said since the work on the riverfront has been stalled for the past one year, many aquatic creatures are also on the verge of death.

The Gomti river project was started by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in 2016.
