Nitin Gadkari, senior Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leader and Union transport minister, reportedly said that Indian politics was defined by Three Cs: Cash, Caste and Criminals. Gadkari made the remark while addressing the Times of India Economic Conclave in Mumbai, on Thursday, December 13.

According to a report published in Mumbai Mirror, Gadkari said, “Whether you like it or not, a majority of Indian politics is defined by three Cs— cash, caste and criminals. Anything can happen in Parliament and cricket.” Ironically, he also spoke about emergence of divisive campaigning for vote-bank politics. “Today backwardness has become a tool of political interest,” reported MM.

In his speech, according to MM, Gadkari also accepted that India was facing agricultural and rural crises on account of continued neglect of the two sectors. “We haven’t given agriculture a priority since Independence. Till rural and agricultural economy is strengthened and the purchasing power of large population increases, there is more employment in rural sector, nothing will happen. We neglect agriculture and rural sector,” he said.
