In yet another case of lynching triggered by rumours, an unidentified man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of being a child-lifter in Chhattisgarh’s Sarguja district today. The incident took place at Mendrakla village, police said. The man, around 40 years old, arrived in the village this morning, but when people asked him who he was and where he was coming from, he could give no answers, said a police official. Read more.

Justice J Chelameswar, who demitted office today, has disapproved of the Centre’s decision not to elevate Justice K M Joseph to the Supreme Court, terming the action as “not sustainable”.

Samayuddin (65), one of the men who were allegedly brutally assaulted by the mob after a minor tiff with a man on a motorcycle, can be seen pleading to the attackers.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chaudhary Lal Singh has allegedly threatened Kashmiri journalists of a “Shujaat Bukhari-like” incident on Friday, a Greater Kashmir report said.
The former Jammu and Kashmir minister had said that others may meet the same fate for creating “a wrong narrative regarding the Kathua rape-and-murder case”.
While addressing a press conference in Jammu, Lal Singh reminded the media about Rising Kashmir editor Bukhari’s gruesome murder. “It’s better to control yourself before the situation gets worse,” he said, adding, “They (journalists) must draw a line so that brotherhood in the state remains intact and we also join the journey of development.” Read more.

Uttar Pradesh: Meat Seller Thrashed By Cops For ‘Cow Slaughter’
A local meat seller who was allegedly beaten up by the police over allegations of cow slaughter has died in a Delhi hospital.
Salim Qureshi alias Munna was picked up by two police constables on June 14 from his home and taken to a private wedding hall where they beat him up severely, his wife Farzana has alleged in a complaint lodged with the police.
He died yesterday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), she said. Read more.
