The Election Commission (EC) has reportedly sought a report from the superintendent of police Imphal (East district) about people being physically prevented from leaving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal, Manipur.
On 7th April, police tried to physically restrain people from leaving Modi’s rally. As per a video posted by Manipur Talks, police can be seen barricading the area to stop people from leaving.

In another video on social media, two women can be seen climbing a closed gate. One woman is heard furiously yelling, “What is Narendra Modi going to do by coming here?!” The gate was later opened as more people started to exit the ground, causing a stampede-like situation. The incident was a prima facie violation of the model code of conduct.
A Samajwadi Jan Parishad leader had sent a complaint to the EC regarding the violation. With regard to this complaint the EC has sent a letter 5/ARO-ADC/14&15Acs/Compl/2019, dated 10th April, 2019 to Imphal police authorities asking for an investigative report, reported Mediavigil.
The report added that the EC has also asked BJP’s Manipur president to provide an explanation regarding the incident.
