In a video clip, Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Vijayapura Basangouda Patil Yatnal is heard asking corporators to “work for Hindus and not Muslims”.
The former union minister was speaking at a function in Vijaypura on Thursday as part of Shivaji Jayanti. In the video clip, which now went viral, he can be seen asking the crowd to tell him who voted for him in Vijaypura. The minister himself quickly responded saying, “I had asked Muslims not to vote for me.” He went on to say that he had asked his aides to make sure that Muslims were not seen around him.
People on social media lashed out at Yatnal for his statement.
