Madhya Pradesh Elections: Polling Begins With EVMs Malfunctioning Across the State

Polling began in Madhya Pradesh on November 28, Wednesday morning to elect a 230-member assembly in Madhya Pradesh, where the ruling BJP and opposition Congress are fighting for supremacy.

Several reports of non-functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in many parts of Madhya Pradesh emerged in the initial hours of the state assembly polls.

ANI reported that EVMs were not functioning in polling booths in Ujjain, Alirajpur, Burhanpur. Reportedly, two faulty EVMs were replaced in Ujjain, while in Alirajpur 11 Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VYPAT) machines were replaced.

 

In Burhanpur, two EVMs and five VYPAT machines were replaced. The ET also reported that members of the Election Commission (EC) had been called to Bhopal where two EVMs had not been functioning.

Punjab Kesari reported that EVMs had malfunctioned at various centres in the cities of Bhind, Shahdol, Guna, Khargone, and in the Agar Malwa district.

There were also reports about EVMs malfunctioning in the Chanderi town.

Polling is being held between 8 am and 5 pm on 227 seats, while in three assembly segments – Lanji, Paraswada and Baihar – in the Naxal-affected Balaghat district, voting time is between 7 am to 3 pm.
