Salman Shaheen, an assistant professor who taught English to BTech students at the Lovely Professional University, has resigned over a social media post in the wake of nation-wide unrest following the Pulwama terror attack. Shaheen, however, was allegedly forced to leave, reported The Indian Express.
Shaheen also claimed that the photo of his Facebook status had been morphed, and the same became the cause of much uncalled-for wrath. Following the discussion generated by the post, a group of people, recalled Shaheen, including students, had confronted him at his rented residence near the LPU campus.
Per the report, Shaheen said, “I had written ‘Instead of using gun in Kashmir, we should use language of love’. I had also posted ‘When the blood of Kashmiri people is shed that time we should also promote it’. Another message read, ‘We don’t promote terrorism, let’s not act blind’.”
“Some student morphed the picture of the Facebook post and added ‘What you sow, so shall you reap. This attack is answer to that’,” he said.
Shaheen told the Express that when got in touch with the Pro-Chancellor, “She told me that the students are angry and that I should resign… I asked her what will happen if I don’t resign and she responded that she would hand me to police.”
At the higher ranks of the university administration, Director of International Affairs, Aman Mittal, said, “We got to know about his post on Facebook, and when questioned, he realised his mistake, and he decided to resign from the university, and the university accepted the resignation.”
