‘Khelo India’ were made to serve tea and snacks to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders in BJP Ranchi office on Monday, reported Newsd.
They have been selected from all over Jharkhand, to play at a national level competition in Delhi.
In a video shared by Newsd, players can be seen serving snacks during a meeting.
According to a BBC Hindi report, the players gave conflicting accounts of the incident.
A member of the women’s kabaddi team said that some students served tea to their teachers voluntarily, while a member of the men’s kabaddi team reportedly said that they served tea and biscuits only to their own team members.
A local journalist, who was present at the scene, told the BBC, “Earlier, the children had admitted that they were told to serve tea and biscuits. But when the video became viral on Social Media, they were pressured to not to speak about it. The children are afraid that they will be removed from the team.”
Congress lawmaker Randeep Singh Surjewala also took to Twitter and expressed his ire over the matter.
He wrote on his Twitter handle on Monday, “खिलाड़ियों की यह अपमान, नहीं सहेगा हिन्दुस्तान ! भाजपाई ‘खेलो इंडिया खेलो‘ के प्रतिभाशाली खिलाड़ियों से अपने कार्यालय में चाय–पकौड़े बँटवाने का काम कराते हैं । मोदी जी,क्या आप खिलाड़ियों का ऐसे ही सम्मान करवाते हैं ? शर्मनाक !”
(“Hindustan will not accept such insult of the players. BJP forced ‘Khelo India Khelo’ talented players to serve tea-snacks at its office. Modi ji, is this how you respect players? Shameful!”)
