Karnataka Election: Seized Voter ID Cards Aren’t Fake; 2 People Arrested, Says CEO

Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar

A day after 9,746 voter ID cards were recovered from an apartment in Bengaluru, Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar on Wednesday said that the cards are “not fake”. Two people were arrested in connection with the case, Kumar confirmed.

“The close to 10,000 EPIC cards seized in a late-night raid yesterday are all genuine, some old and some new, systematically collected from slums. We don’t know for what purpose,” Kumar said.

“We have also found documents in the apartment that seem to show a survey being conducted to identify vulnerable voters, including personal details like caste, EB card numbers,” Kumar added.

According to ANI, Kumar ruled out reports which suggested that the Election Commission of India’s system was hacked to issue the voter cards which were recovered.
