RR Nagar polls deferred; EC’s move ‘unfortunate’, says Congress (Read ECI order)

One day before the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) deferred the polls in the R R Nagar constituency following an inquiry into the recent seizure of over 9,700 voter identity cards from a flat in the area. The Congress party has called the EC’s move “unfortunate”.

Speaking to NC24*7, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said, “It is extremely unfortunate that EC has chosen to defer the election in the Rajarajeshwari assembly despite the truth being out in the open. Let me again quote some facts, the owner of the flat was a BJP member, she leases it out to her nephew who also contested on a BJP ticket.”

“Both of them have been actively campaigning in the assembly for the BJP candidate. Manjula’s son has called Prakash Javdekar a liar for disowning his mother. Manjula (the owner of the flat) has categorically admitted that she is in the ‘sharan of BJP’ and was never associated to the Congress,” she added.

Chaturvedi asserted that the raid was first conducted by members of the BJP along with the BJP candidate. “If all this is not a planned drama then what is? We would appeal to the EC to uphold the responsibilities it is entrusted with and reconsider its decision. However, we assure the people that such kind of dirty tricks employed by the BJP will be exposed and Congress will win with the biggest margin in Rajrajeshwari’s electoral history,” she said.
