In connection with voter id card raid issue, the Congress party on Wednesday held a meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and submitted a detailed memorandum stating the malpractices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and how they have tried to subvert free and fair elections in Karnataka.
After meeting the ECI, Congress leader Anand Sharma said, “Delegation of the Congress met EC. We submitted a detailed memorandum about malpractices of BJP and how the central govt with the help of central agencies, including IT dept, is trying to subvert free & fair elections in Karnataka.”

On Tuesday, around 9,746 voter ID cards were seized from an apartment in Bengaluru’s Raja Rajeshwari Nagar four days ahead of May 12 Karnataka Assembly elections.
EC has ordered an inquiry saying more facts will be investigated. It has said the BJP’s demand for cancelling voting at a constituency is “far-fetched” and not possible, NDTV reported. “Voters can vote even without voter IDs by showing other proof. So just because of 9,000 cards were found in that flat doesn’t warrant countermanding of polls in Rajarajeshwari Nagar,” said a source.
The house in which the voter id cards were found allegedly belonged to a BJP leader and ex-corporator, Manjula Nanjamari. Nanjamari claims that she had rented out the apartment. The Congress claimed that the flat was taken by Manjula’s relative and BJP worker Rakesh on rent. However, Manjula claimed that she had rented the flat to some other person in April.
