The Chief Election Commission on Thursday said that no EVMs were given to the Delhi University for elections.

PIO of the Election Commission said, “Ask Delhi University about use of the machines they procured. When ECI uses EVMs, our fieldunits do so with appropriate training and keep secure storage of machines and all requisite protocols are followed.”

It is shocking that EVMs can be randomly procured for a state university’s elections, that too one of the most well known and prestigious universities of the country.

The commission underlined that it “seems the university has procured these machines privately”.

Earlier today, the Congress-affiliated NSUI demanded that fresh polling be held for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election, while the RSS’s student wing, the ABVP, wanted the counting of votes, which has been suspended, to be resumed.

The counting of votes for the DUSU polls was suspended midway on Thursday due to “faulty EVMs and the students’ uproar over it”.

The counting was initially stopped for an hour after the allegations of faulty EVMs surfaced. However, following objections by the students, the election officials decided to suspend the process.
