In a big boost to students and first-time voters, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday, April 7 posted on Facebook that if his party comes to power, it would forgive the interest on education loans taken out till 31st March 2019.
He also promised a single window system for student loans, adding that banks wouldn’t be allowed to collect interest on future education loans until the student has a way to pay it back.

He posted, “Congress will forgive the outstanding interest on old education loan until 31 March 2019. We will also institute a single window system for education loans. Banks will not collect any interest until the student gets a job or opens a business.”
The Congress party has made a huge push for education reform. In its manifesto, the party promised that the government will allocate six per cent of the total gross domestic product (GDP) on education.
Rahul Gandhi had said, “We have decided to dramatically increase the amount of money we spend on education. After coming to power, we will spend six per cent of GDP on education. We will make sure all our people have access to top quality education. Those who cannot afford education will get a scholarship.”
