According to a report released by UNESCO last year, India witnessed the highest number of internet shutdowns from September 2016 to November 2017, among the south-asian countries, recording a total of 54 incidents.
UNESCO had also issued a warning on the increasing trend of digital blackouts.
However, in the first six months of 2018, India has recorded 65 internet shutdowns, reported a recent survey by internetshutdowns.in.
Out of these, 29 incidents have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir, followed by eight incidents in Rajasthan.
Uttar Pradesh also witnessed digital blackouts seven times this year, whereas internet services were cut down four times in Bihar and three times in Maharashtra.
This survey also mentioned that there were 70 incidents of internet blackout in the country in 2017.
