In Yogi’s UP, Murdered Dalit Man’s Son Shot Dead

In yet another mind-numbing atrocity against a Dalit family in the Yogi Aditynath-governed Uttar Pradesh, a 40-year-old man was shot dead by five bike-borne assailants in Ghaziabad’s Naifal village in what is suspected to be a case of caste enmity. What’s chilling is the fact that the victim Mahendra’s father was also shot dead by alleged upper caste men During at Mahendra’s own wedding in February 2009. Mahendra was a witness in the murder case of his father.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna said Mahendra was returning to his home in the evening after parking the vehicle on a private school premises. When he was just a few yards away from his home, the five bike-borne assailants opened fire at him, leaving him dead on the spot, and fled, the SSP said. The incident took place under Masuri town police station area and family members of the deceased have identified the assailants, the police said.
