The BJP continues to face flak for picking netas with a checkered past as candidates for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. Many of these netas have been imported from rival parties. But what has really got social media buzzing is BJP’s decision to field Lakshman S Savadi, CC Patil and J Krishna Palemar as candidates for the May 12 elections.
The three were ministers back in 2012 when they were caught “violating the sanctity of the Karnataka assembly”, watching porn on a mobile phone when the House was in session.
CC Patil was, in fact, the Women and Child Welfare Minister and had, a month earlier, advised women to adhere to a dress code to escape sexual assault on the streets.
The recent public outcry over the Kathua rape and murder and the Unnao rape case seems to have had no impact on the saffron party with the three Netas now set to hold rallies from where they are likely to offer sermons on what people ought to do for a better tomorrow.
And adding to the frustration is another BJP minister, this time from Madhya Pradesh.
While the three Karnataka Netas were added to the Party’s list of candidates without a second thought, the Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Bhupendra Singh, has said he is considering a ban on porn to check rape and molestation cases.
Tuesday is the last day for filing of nominations for elections to the 224-seat assembly in Karnataka.
The Election Commission had received 1,127 nominations till Monday, The Indian Express reported.
Congress had filed 174 of them, 178 were filed by the BJP, 141 by the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), 457 by independents and the remaining were filed by other parties and regional outfits.
