Students of Mehgaon village in Madhya Pradesh are forced to walk through a forest and then cross a river everyday, to attend school in a nearby village.

More than two dozen students walk for seven kilometres to attend their school in Bori village because there is no secondary school in Mehgaon, reported NDTV

Gyan Singh, a teacher at the Bori school, told ANI, “There are 232 students in the school. Students, who hail from Mehgaon, are forced to cross a river and a jungle to come to study in Bori since there is no high school in Mehgaon.”

A student said, “It’s not easy to cross the river on a daily basis, there is a lot of risk. However, there is no other option.”

The village panchayat informed the concerned government authorities about the situation and asked them to build roads and bridge in the village. However, no action has been taken thus far.

Naveen Vishwakarma, secretary of Bori panchayat, said, “On multiple occasions, we have written to authorities with a demand for proper roads and a bridge across the river. It’s big work, which doesn’t fall under the panchayat. Hence, we have to talk to the higher authorities for the same.”
