Haryana roadways workers’ union has reportedly alleged that hundred of crores rupees of corruption took place when 510 buses were taken on loan under the kilometre scheme. At a press conference on April 26, they demanded that a sitting HC judge or the CBI should investigate the matter.

Somnath Sharma writing for Dainik Savera wrote that district union leader Indra Singh Badhana and union leader Sarbat Singh Puniya told reporters that the union had previously raised concerns about misappropriation of Rs 500 crore for taking out 510 private buses on loan at high rates, under the kilometre scheme. 510 buses were taken on loan at the rate of Rs 37.10 per kilometre. When tenders were released for 190 buses, the rate was only Rs 19.99. The difference of Rs 17 per kilometre points to signs of corruption, they said.

District union chef Subhash Lamba told Dainik Savera that by ending overtime payment for workers, and not allowing buses to ply at night in rural areas, the passengers as well as workers are adversely affected.  He said that if the alternative solution is not withdrawn then the workers will be forced to unite and sit for agitation yet again.

Lamba said that during the 14-day roadways worker agitation against the kilometre scheme, cases were filed against 1974 workers, 318 workers were charged, 567 workers were arrested and 194 workers were suspended.
