Organized by Rashtirya Dalit Adhikar Manch, over 2000 dalits took out a ‘Samvindhan Bachao Yatra (Save the Constitution Rally)’ in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on November 25, Sunday. Starting from Chadkheda, the rally covered a distance of 26 kilometres to conclude in Amraiwadi, reported Janchowk.
Addressing the jansabha (public meeting) in Amraiwadi, Dalit-Muslim Ekta Manch leader Kaleem Siddiqui said, “The Constitution was built under the leadership of Baba Saheb. If it had been done under the leadership of a Muslim, RSS members today would have openly said that they reject the constitution.” He added that although the sentiments of the Dalit community are particularly attached to the constitution, every citizen is responsible for protecting it.
Dalit activist Mahesh Parmar said that while countries like China and Japan are thinking about developing ways to prosper “but we are saying Mandir Wahin Banayenge.” He also said that only Ambedkarism can save the country. “Youth in the society are getting trapped by drugs addiction In such circumstances, young leaders like Jignesh Mewani are a ray of hope who are trying to raise people out of the swamp of addiction. It is the need of the hour that young people realise the importance of the two weapons given by Baba Saheb – education and the right to vote.”
Parmar added that Ambedkarite movement should not be limited to dalits and should extend to all communites. He added, “We will sacrifice ourselves for the constitution but will not let any harm come to it,” reported Janchowk
A similar rally was taken out in Mumbai by Hardik Patel and Gujarat MLA and Rashtirya Dalit Adhikar Manch founder Jignesh Mewani.
