After the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government submitted to the Supreme Court that files pertaining to the Rafale deal had been ‘stolen’ from the Defence Ministry, social media users on Thursday starting tweeting about everything else that ‘vanished’ under the NDA government. Over 17 thousand tweets were posted under the hashtag #GayabHoGaya.
Taking a jibe at the government’s response in the SC, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in a press conference had said that this govt’s slogan should “Gayab Ho Gaya.” Soon after, the hashtag #GayabHoGaya started trending, with people talking about the vanished promises of jobs and development; free speech, autonomy of institutions, farmers’ incomes, and small-scale industries and businesses after demonetisation, the 15 lakh rupees, among other things.
One user shared a video that is now going viral. Workers deployed at the Kumbh 2019 are seen lamenting for not having received their due wages even after the Kumbh got over. With PM’s photo-op exercise of washing the feet of five carefully selected workers at the Kumbh now over, the workers gathered to protest against the authorities for not paying them. They are heard saying that they have to resort to begging for buying food and medicine, because their health deteriorates after sewage cleaning.
