Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has reportedly slammed the Modi government on Tuesday, February 12 for refusing to hand over the National Investigation Agency (NIA) case file diary on the  2013 Jhiram Valley Naxal attack in which several Congress leaders were killed, to his government.

In a letter, the Home Ministry informed Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar Kujur that the NIA case file diary will not be returned to the state government, Patrika reported. Further, the ministry added that the investigative agency has filed a charge sheet against nine accused in September 2014 and a charge sheet against 30 others was filed in September 2015 and 91 witnesses have been questioned in connection with the case. There is no valid reason for returning the case file to the state government for starting an inquiry, the ministry said.

Speaking in the Assembly, Baghel underlined that the Centre’s refusal to hand over the documents and co-operate with the Special Investigation Team makes it crystal clear that there is a major conspiracy involved in the case. “Everyone knows that Jhiram Valley attack was ‘contract killing’,” Baghel added.

The newly formed Congress government in the state has set up a 10-member SIT in January to probe the Jhiram Valley attack case.
