A press release by the BSP, dated Wednesday, February 6 said , “Ms. Mayawati has for the first time decided to join Twitter for speedy interaction with media and masses besides expressing her views on various issues of national and political importance through Twitter.”

While the handle was created in October 2018, the first tweet was posted on January 22. Within minutes, she gained over 10 thousand followers. At the time of writing this article, the handle had nearly 15 thousand followers.
