BJP Accessing Your Private Data? Mumbai Voter Allegedly Receives Alarming Text From Party

Election results 2019 karnataka

It appears that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may be accessing voters’ data and using it to personally target each of them. Someone on Twitter shared the screenshot of a personalised message, soliciting votes for the BJP, received on WhatsApp.

Per the text of the message, it is sent on behalf of BJP MP Gopal Shetty to his constituents. The message mentions the individual voter’s name, voter identification number and the date on which elections will to take place in his constituency.

All these details would have sufficed and if sent from the election commission it would have been a great public service.

“Please give your important vote to BJP Candidate shri Gopal Shetty to make a phir ek baar Modi sarkar…,” the message reads.

A second person said that they, too, had received the same message

NewsCentral24x7 tried contacting Sandeep Mishra, under whose name and number the message has been sent. However, our calls went unanswered.

Shetty is running on a BJP ticket from Mumbai North constituency. Congress has fielded Urmila Matondkar against him. Mumbai North goes to the polls in the fourth phase of elections on 29 April.
