Yoga guru Baba Ramdev recently courted controversy with his remarks that people who have more than two children should not have any voting rights in the country. Ramdev was speaking to people who had gathered on Sunday, November 4 at the Patanjali Yogpeeth.

Ramdev said, “In this country, those, who, like me, do not marry, should be honoured, and those who marry and have more than two children; their voting rights should be taken away.” He also added, “People work for their family. There is no wife, no children, and see how comfortable we still are.”

Adding that not having a family meant that there would be no one to stake a claim in Patanjali, Ramdev said, “I don’t go around with the baggage (of having the family). I have created brands… If I had children, they would have staked claim for Patanjali. (I would have told them) this Patanjali is not your father’s property, it belongs to the country.”

Earlier in May 2018, Patanjali products were included in Qatar’s banned list of food imports. All Patanjali food products were banned for failing to comply with Qatar’s Halal requirements.
