Ninong Ering, Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh (East) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, November 20, on the alleged atrocities committed by the Indian army against the people of village Longkhjon in Longding district.
In his letter, Ering has described that 23 people of the village were beaten by the army. A priest by the name of Lempo Wangjen and Ramgkai Apesam, a former GPM were also among those beaten by the army. According to Ering, the reasons for which the army had assaulted the villagers were not known to them.

Reportedly, the villagers were forced to carry the body of a dead militant Kamchan Wangpan who belonged to the National Socialist Council of India [NSCN (U)] militant group. While the villagers did so fearing for their lives, they, however, did not have any connection with the militant faction.
In his letter, Ering stated, “(The) army raided the village and tortured and harassed the innocent villagers and did not even spare women. Prior to the operation, the army did not even inform the district administration nor did they take any civil police with them.”
Ering, added, “…The people are between ‘the Devil and the Deep Sea’. The rakshaks become the bhakshak and the consistent fear psychosis of army brutality is looming amongst the villagers of these districts of Arunachal Pradesh.”
