Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan issued an ominous statement in the immediate aftermath of Urjit Patel’s resignation as the RBI governor on Monday, December 10.
Reuters reported Rajan saying, “All Indians should be concerned about Governor Patel’s resignation.” NDTV reported that Rajan also observed that Patel’s resignation was a “note of protest.”

In 2016, Patel had taken over as the RBI governor following Rajan’s departure in September 2016. He was previously the deputy governor under Rajan.
Announcing his resignation, Patel cited “personal reasons” for stepping down from the role.
