According to a report by IndiaToday, Ms. Rosemary Patrici Dos Anjos, the lawyer of Christian Michel, has said that Indian agencies are pressuring Michel to sign a false confession naming Sonia Gandhi.
Michel was arrested in Dubai two days ago, for his role as a ‘middleman’ in the Agusta Westland matter which is under investigation for the alleged kickbacks received by several officials.
Patrici added that the government agencies were offering to exonerate Michel if he agreed to implicate Sonia Gandhi. Michel’s sister, Sasha Ozeman, agreed with Patrici and said that the agencies were insisting that Michele admits that he knew Mrs. Gandhi personally, even though he has maintained that he has never met her.
In a press conference on Friday, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewaala said, “This is a concreted conspiracy. Never before in the history of India has a prime minister been found complicit in gaining false evidence against opposition leaders to seek revenge.”
In a strongly worded statement, the Congress called it a “black chapter” in the history of the Indian democracy, and attacked the CBI and the ED for being a “willing tool” of a “malicious conspiracy” being hatched by the Modi government. “This shocking expose is also a testimony to the disease prevailing in CBI/ED prostrating before the Prime Minister..”, said Surjewala.
Surjewala explained that the Congress government had handed the Agusta Westland case to the CBI in February 2013, after cancelling the Rs. 3546 cr deal.
Calling Modi government a “protector and benefactor of AgustaWestland/Finmeccanica”, the Congress underlined the fact that the Modi government has allowed them to be a defence “subcontractor”, despite Agusta Westland being blacklisted by the UPA government. Not only did the Modi government announce Agusta Westland to be a part of the flagship “Make in India” scheme, has also allowed them to bid for Navy Helicopters
