Several farmer associations reportedly distributed onions for free outside the district collector’s office in drought-hit Beed on Monday, December 10. The farmers were protesting against falling prices of produce. Farmer organisations such as Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana (SSS), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Surajya Sena participated in the protest.

Marathi daily Sakal reported that although the organisations distributed onions for free, a few sympathetic people paid some money in return, the total of which came to around Rs 140. According to Sakal’s report, this amount will be sent to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
